Position: Process Automation Engineer
Location: Chennai
Criteria:
The role of Process Automation Engineer ideally calls for a person with the combined skills and knowledge of Chemical Engineer and Instrumentation and Controls Engineer.
In India this is a difficult combination to come by and hence we hire both Chemical Engineers and Instrumentation and Controls Engineers for this role whilst looking for demonstrable skills and knowledge in some of the following areas
Chemical Engineer
- Good command over process control concepts and strategy
- Exposure to Plant Operations preferably through DCS.
- Plant commissioning and Start-up experience.
- Exposure to Advanced Process Control / APC implementation
- Exposure / Specialization in any of the major Chemical processes / technology.
- Experience in the Technical Services department of process plants.
- Working level knowledge of Automation systems& Instrumentation
- Has some level of exposure to control application development on DCS.
Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
- Solid instrumentation and Controls basics.
- Extensive experience in control application development on DCS.
- Flair for process control and strategy design
- Plant commissioning and start-up experience.
- Can demonstrate process knowledge of some of the process units he/she has developed control application for.
- Experience in engineering medium to large automation projects.
General Requirements:
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to travel abroad on short and long term assignments on need basis.
- Willingness to work on Legacy Control Systems
Purpose:
The Process Automation Engineer acts as a technical resource and process control engineer for capital and improvement projects.
Responsibility:
These projects include implementing Company’s Most Effective Technologies in process automation, incremental process technology improvements and solutions new to Company’s businesses with safety as the top priority.
- For opportunity investigations in Company’s facilities, the incumbent will work with Company’s businesses on the evaluation of data and use of specific methodologies to crystallize potential opportunities. The role would require the individual to work with global team(s) responsible for implementation of process control solutions to capture improvement opportunities.
- The individual is expected to be fully qualified and proficient in the application of chemical process control fundamentals.
- He/she should to be able to design and implement process control and process safety strategies for both continuous and batch processes
- There would be need to write process simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.
- It would be required to participate in plant commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops
- It would be mandatory to follow aggressive project improvement goals, and plan, track and drive the implementation team to achieve those goals
- individual is also expected to provide technical expertise as a part of related global networks. The individual must be able to work with minimal supervision and be self-directed.
