Position: Team Leader – Product Development
Location : Mangalore
Criteria:
- Education: .Sc./Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry/Paints/material science.
- Working Experience: More than 15 years of experience in Product Development
- Communication: Fluent English (reading, writing and presenting.)
Objectives:
- Understand future needs of North American market and convert to technical needs
- Create and steward project proposals through the global selection process
- Develop patent strategy to support proposals
- Develop patentable technologies
- Submit Invention Disclosures
- Experience in automotive coatings
- Expert in material science field supporting automotive coatings, preferably chemistry, material or polymer science
- Expert in developing automotive coatings products like basecoats, clear coats, primers using water borne or solvent borne technologies.
- Drives innovation in automotive coatings and ensures know-how exchange and collaboration within the EC globally
- Maintains knowledge of automotive industry trends globally with a focus on North America.
- Leading team in highly globally networked and collaborative work environment and developing cutting edge of automotive OEM Coatings technologies.
- In depth knowledge of appearance aspects, performance requirements of coatings from different OEMs
- Actively presents information on development projects to internal and external customers
- Maintains labs with the highest standards of EH&S
Main Tasks
- Primary responsibility is to translate North American automotive coatings trends into new products that meet or exceed customer requirements for North American Automotive OEM coatings industry
- Develops and stewards global project proposals through the global steering committee.
- Responsible for technology ideation and creation of projects to develop novel products and technologies to support the future health of the North American business
- Creates invention disclosures and works with the IP experts to write patents to protect the novel technology
- Leads seamlessly in an international environment
- Works as a team member or leader of global projects where team may be located anywhere.
- Responsible for leading and mentoring a group of 6 employees with varied degree and background.
- Both functionally and administratively leads the automotive OEM Coatings Product Development Team and administratively leads the Resin Team.
- Individual contributor as well as a supervisor who supervises and participates in lab experimentation. This includes bench work as well as leading a technical staff.
- Manages global Phase Gate projects and Cross-North American project teams to achieve deliverables/targets in a timely manner
- Analyzes assigned product development projects, usually complex in nature, to determine what must be done to solve the problems in question. Plan the methods necessary for their solution. Conduct necessary literature and patent searches and assess utility of information for projects
- Organizes and supervises roles, responsibilities and work routines within the team
- Directs and provides required training for the work of one or more chemists or technicians and supervises visiting students or scientists on temporary assignments
- Writes comprehensive reports and evaluations on data obtained from experimentation and, if necessary, orally present observations, conclusions and recommendations to persons in areas of the company’s interests. Prepare original papers for presentation or publication if within security and policy restrictions
- Stays updated with current developments in the areas of coatings
- Plans scale up batches and supports production team in problem solving and process optimization
- Contributes and adheres to Safety and Environmental standards of the Corporation, Division and Site
- Promotes know-how exchange and collaboration within EC
- Ability to develop self and team members.
