Your Reputation Travels Ahead of You - Power of Networking
“A reputation for good judgement, for fair dealing, for truth, and rectitude, is itself a fortune,” said Henry Ward Beecher; and we agree after all reputation is fortune you can’t risk losing. The only way to build up a good reputation is by maintaining a network of people and if not actively then regularly attending to it at different intervals of time.
Aakash and Hemant required investors to develop and expand their business. Where Hemant relied on costly advertising to attract investors, Aakash decided to spread the word in his existing network of people. Because of frequent tending to his network, Aakash was able to find reliable and trustworthy investors for his project however Hemant was not able to attract genuine investors and also spent a large amount in advertising.
Tend to your network.
Maintaining the network that requires a lot of effort. If you don’t tend to your network frequently you are ought to have a reputation as someone inconsiderate or careless which can have a highly negative impact on your business. Maintaining your network as significant of a part of the business as everyday operations and to efficiently do so, put in extra effort to please your clients, colleagues and employees. To please the people you must provide efficient services, be more approachable, trustworthy and loyal to clients to avoid your competitor penetrating your network.
People in your network may not always be proactive enough to leave reviews hence you should be polite and confident enough to encourage them to do so as it will not only help in expanding yourself but also become aware of changes required by popular demand in you, your services and your business. Take into account suggestions of your colleagues, employees and clients; once you do so they are bound to feel acknowledged which will only make their interest in your brand more cemented. Be mentally prepared for the negativity as well because there will always be people who won’t be interested in your brand and might leave a negative review, instead of making the mistake of ignoring the negative review you should work on addressing it.
Internet is your friend, let it help you.
You must be highly cautious when using social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn as they keep your mutual users Update on your activities over the platform. Because of the highly political discourse embedded in these platforms and variance in the political stance of people you should try to distance yourself from extreme political issues because the difference in political ideologies can negatively affect the network and further tamper your reputation. The Internet demands cautiousness, but rather than being afraid of it you should be cautious and use it to their advantage by interacting with more and more people; however, while doing so you should not avoid their local community and industry as detachment from them can be perceived negatively by the members of your network.
This network directly influences the presence of your business despite its significance remains intangible and the only element that can bring changes to its course is your actions and behaviour towards the already existing network. Any rumour, lie, mistake or inappropriate behaviour is bound to drastically affect your reputation by the means of your network.
